Concrete Installation:
There is a right and wrong way of installing concrete flat work. Here is a quick video clip showing a few key components of how to do it the right way. First you will notice we use a compacted class 2 road base for our foundation. This separates the concrete from the clay in the soils and provides a strong foundation to minimize cracking. It also helps provide a consistent base so that the color in the concrete is less spotty. Next, we install 3/8″ re-bar, 18″ on center. This too helps to minimize cracking as well as prevent vertical separation.
Finally, we place the colored concrete, mixed by the concrete company (color is integral, not solely on the surface) using a pump and hose. While it may save money to pour small patios by mixing on-site by hand, it will never look the same.
